If we are marketing your home, we will first and foremost determine the most probable target market and then come up with a marketing plan that is focused on most effectively reaching that market. Proudly Fair on Fees

Everyone knows that house prices here are reaching new heights every day. And so do agents commissions! It’s no secret that the big brand real estate agents charge an arm and a leg for their services, and it’s generally accepted that the more you pay, the more you get. But that’s just not true.

On average, most big brand real estate agents charge up to 4% on the first $400,000 of the sale price, then add an additional 2% on the remainder, plus an administration charge around $500, then add on GST and all marketing expenses. For a home valued at $750,000 these big brands will be charging in excess of $29,000. In our view, that’s not a fair price when internet marketing does most of the work these days – and often you will be asked to pay for that marketing cost too!

So why do the big brands charge so much? Ultimately the fee structure based on tradition, or if you will, a hangover from the days when market values were a fraction of today’s figures. If you think about this, twenty years ago the average market value in Christchurch was $167,000 resulting in a commission fee of around $7,000. Technology has reduced market costs significantly, making it easier to list and sell real estate, yet today the average home sale attracts a $29,000 plus marketing fees.

At Real Homes we believe the industry is due for change, and we’re proud to be driving that change forward.

But how can we afford to charge less and still offer a premium result? To begin with, Real Homes is completely independent of any franchise organisation. We do not pay franchise fees, management fees or high street office leases. We do use technology and new buyer habits to reduce overheads and we pass those savings onto our clients.
